Nerinx Hall High School
Welcome to General Chemistry At Nerinx Hall for 2013-2014
Welcome to our fascinating and exciting journey through the wonderful world of Chemistry
I am continually in the process of updating this site. During the 2013 Summer I completely re-designed and re-wrote the entire website. If you have any suggestions or questions, let me know. I continue to work on it as I think of things or other things are needed or become available -- tabs change, files are moved/updated, etc. Please let me know if you find anything that is not correct, does not show, or does not show properly.
We are again using the new book we introduced last year: Basic Concepts of Chemistry, 9th Ed. (Malone and Dolter, (c)2012) so a number of things (especially the Class Notes) are in transition from previous years.
Former students should be able to find any information they are looking for by looking at the appropriate sections in the current Chapter Notes. If you have any questions or specific needs, let me know. (I do have copies of the old Notes from the Zumdahl book if you want them. Just get in touch with me.)
I try to keep things updated in PowerSchool as grades become available but some things are not easy to translate to what you might see there. I generally enter the grades as I can but sometimes there are adjustments you receive after corrections or other things. Some things do not ever appear specifically, such as extra credit points which are not figured into your grade until the very end of a quarter. Please understand that any "quarter or semester average" that shows in PowerSchool is pretty meaningless until the actual end of the quarter/semester given the way scores are treated by the program. Ultimately, however, it is always the grade that I calculate separately from PowerSchool which will be the final grade for the semester/quarter. This is the grade that will ultimately show when all is said and done.
Based on some discussions this past summer with some former students I have updated almost all the information for the class, including guidelines for homework, reports, test, etc.
Always remember: You can start on either the Quarterly or Written reports at anytime during the quarter. Hint-Hint: Think about articles/events as you find them. Don't wait until the last minute! The same holds for Extra Credit.
Also: As some of you will discover if you haven't already, you must assume that something might go wrong (you get sick or take a trip, have a failure to connect, email/computer dies, Nerinx email does not work, mail does not go through, internet stops working, etc.) and get these reports done and handed in early. No matter what the circumstances, each report is due when it is due! [And for emailed items I use the time-stamp on the email to determine when a paper is submitted.}
+ The Quarterly Report for the Second Quarter will be due on December 9.
+ The Written Report for the Second Quarter will be due on December 17.
ALL REPORTS ARE DUE BY 3:05PM ON THE DUE DATE.
FOR ANYTHING TO BE CONSIDERED FOR A GRADE IT MUST BE SUBMITTED BY 3:05PM ON THE LAST DAY OF THE QUARTER.
